The traditional music group Ogma will be perform at the sold out BBQ at The Arches Hotel on Saturday.

Two events which Gaeltacht an Eachréidh have organised for this weekend, a sauna in Annaghdown and a BBQ in Claregalway, have both sold out in advance.

There were 50 tickets available for the ‘BBQ an tSamhraidh’ at The Arches Hotel on Saturday, August 29 (7 to 9pm), and they were all sold out by Monday morning.

Gaeltacht an Eachréidh have enjoyed a rich variety of activities during the summer, including trips to Connemara, the Aran Islands, and East Galway, and this is a chance to enjoy a social night out before the return to school, conversation circles, and Irish classes!

The traditional music group Ogma will provide musical entertainment on the evening, while local musicians and singers are invited to bring along their instruments and join the informal session after their two-hour set.

Tickets for the first ever ‘Sauna le Gaeilge’ at Annaghdown pier sold out within just three hours of going on sale last week.

Gaeltacht an Eachréidh has teamed up with Folláine Sauna, based at Annaghdown Pier, to offer a special discounted rate to Gaeilgeoirs who wanted them to join them for a session in their native langauge at the sauna on Thursday, August 27 (7pm).

Ciaran Tierney, the Language Planning Officer for Gaeltacht an Eachréidh, said he could not believe the event at Folláine Sauna’s new 12 seater barrel sauna sold out just three hours after they went on sale.

“It is clear from the demand for both events that there is an appetite for Irish language events to the east of the River Corrib,” said Ciaran. “The huge demand for the Annaghdown event will have to inspire us to put on another ‘Sauna le Gaeilge’ again in the near future. Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket almost as soon as they went on sale.

“And it will be lovely to see a full house at The Arches on Saturday evening, particularly as we are just about to announce a new term of Irish classes at The Arches which begins on September 29.”

Clearly, Irish is “buzzing” east of the Corrib!
