In 2019, surveys were carried out in Gaeltacht an Eachréidh about the status of Irish in our community. More than 76.5% of local people agreed that retaining the Gaeltacht status of our community is important to them. 78% agreed, or strongly agreed, that they would like to hear more Irish spoken in the area.

Gaeltacht an Eachréidh is committed to helping businesses in the area make Irish more visible and it is clear that “language revival” rather than “language maintenance” is the aim of language planning in this unique Gaeltacht to the north of Galway City. This could include Irish language signs, Irish language menus, basic conversational classes, and more Irish on social media.

It is one of the aims of Gaeltacht an Eachreidh to help businesses in our area to promote our beautiful native language. For example, staff at two companies in Claregalway Corporate Park enjoyed free Irish classes in 2024 which have helped them to communicate better with their customers ‘as Gaeilge’.
