Enjoying the craic at Gaeilge Cois Trá in June 2025 at the Galway Bay Sailing Club.

For the second year in a row, Gaeltacht an Eachreidh is delighted to team up with the Galway Bay Sailing Club in Rinville, Oranmore, to offer activity camps ‘as Gaeilge’ to teenagers next month.

These activity camps proved hugely popular last year and we are delighted to offer part-funded scholarships to teenagers who live in Claregalway, Carnmore, or Annaghdown.

This year there are two types of camps for local teenagers. The first week, from June 8 to 12, is aimed at first and second year students. It will include an hour and a half of classroom learning in the mornings and fun activities including sailing for the rest of the day.

Students will be encouraged to speak Irish and the instructors are all fluent Irish speakers.

The second course from June 15 to 19, which is new for 2026, is aimed at Transition Year and Fifth Year students. The focus will be very much on preparation for the Oral Irish examination in the Leaving Certificate and the course will also include an hour and a half of Irish classes with an experienced Irish teacher in the mornings.

Activities on both courses will include learning how to sail, how to use a rib, kayaking, swimming, pier jumping, a céili and a quiz – with all activities ‘as Gaeilge’.

A Department of Education examiner will take charge of the morning Irish classes while the activity leaders are all fluent Irish speakers, having worked at Coláiste Uisce in Co. Mayo and other Irish colleges in the West of Ireland.

There is a €100 discount available, courtesy of Gaeltacht an Eachréidh, if you live in Carnmore, Claregalway, or Annaghdown.

Please email Training@gbsc.ie to apply for a partial scholarship for one of the courses.
