Gaeltacht an Eachréidh have teamed up with one of the West of Ireland’s leading Irish summer colleges and our local secondary school to offer scholarships to attend two weeks of classes in Inis Oirr next summer.
We are thrilled to announce that we can offer four scholarships to boys and girls from Coláiste Baile Chláir to attend Coláiste Laictín in the smallest of the Aran Islands for two weeks in late July and early August 2026.
This is the first year in which we have been in a position to offer scholarships to a Coláiste Samhraidh since we began implementing an Irish language plan for Claregalway, Carnmore, and Annaghdown.
At the moment, students at Coláiste Baile Chláir are completing their entries for a competition to win the scholarships at Coláiste Laictin from July 25 to August 8. There are four places on offer, two for boys and two for girls, for students from the only secondary school in our region.
Today was the closing date for the students to submit recordings to their Irish teachers to clarify why they should be on their way to Inis Oirr next summer.
This is an amazing opportunity to spend two weeks in an Irish-speaking community on a beautiful island at one of the best Irish language summer colleges in the country.
Inis Oirr is a beautiful island, rich in culture and music, and a wonderful place to spend a couple of weeks in high summer. You can be guaranteed that you will return home with a far greater command of the Irish language!
Thanks to teachers Ms Doran and Mr Seoighe for organising the competition at Coláiste Baile Chláir for these wonderful four prizes.
The winners will be announced in January.
