This is the time of year when our ancestors celebrated the start of summer and our friends in the Gaeltacht on the east side of the city are organising a one day festival to celebrate this magical time of year in Menlo on Saturday.

All of the events are free of charge and Irish language enthusiasts in Annaghdown, Claregalway, and Carnmore are particularly welcome to celebrate the start of summer at Árus Mhionlaigh, which is located just beside Menlo National School.

Starting with a ‘Punch And Judy’ show in the morning (11am), the programme of events ‘as Gaeilge’ includes a magic show with Quentin Reynolds, a treasure hunt, a quiz, and a céilí in the evening.

Acclaimed author Mairtin Davey is travelling in from Connemara to deliver a free woodwork workshop at 4pm, there will be a quiz for teams at 6pm, and the day long festivities will end with a céilí at 9pm.

It should be magical in this glorious weather.

The new Irish Language Officer in An Bruach Thoir, Tomás Hogan, is only a few months in the role but he has put a fantastic line-up together to cater for every age group.

All of the events take place in Arus Mhionlaigh, on the east side of the city, right next to Scoil Bhride, the local primary school.
