Cathriona Ui Bhrógan speaking to new parents in Carnmore last night.

The two wonderful nurseries who provide pre-school education ‘as Gaeilge’ in Carnmore and Claregalway are currently meeting new parents whose children are set to start in September.

Last night Cathriona and Bridie at Naionra Carn Mór opened their doors to prospective parents, while Blaithín and Martina will also hold their introductory meeting in Claregalway next Wednesday, March 11.

Both Naíonra Chairn Mhóir and Naíonra Clúidin na mBabai, the nursery school in Claregalway, run all their activities in our native language and provide a wonderful, personalised atmosphere for local children.

The Carnmore facility is located in the GAA clubhouse and includes access to a big hall for rainy day activities for the youngsters.

Caitriona welcomed the new parents to the nursery and shared her passion for the Irish language with them, while the Irish Language Planning Officer for Gaeltacht an Eachréidh, Ciaran Tierney, said it was a wonderful thing for local youngsters to learn Irish in a fun way before they start primary school.

Melissa Nic Eafartaigh, the Development Officer of Comhar Naionra na Gaeltachta, talked about the supports the Irish language nurseries receive from her organisation and the excellent level of Irish the nurseries required to be recognised as ‘naíonraí’ in the Gaeltacht of An Eachréidh.

Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta provide administration, support and training services for early childhood education and care services which includes Naíonraí, crèches, breakfast clubs, and afterschool services in Gaeltacht areas.

Gaeltacht an Eachréidh has been working with both nurseries over the past year, with the help of teacher and Inis Oirr native Máire Ui Dhufaigh, to look at ways of improving the vocabulary of the children in a fun and engaging way.
