Ciaran Tierney and Michael Monaghan of Gaeltacht an Eachréidh presented a new set of t-shirts to the Claregalway GAA Ladies Football Team before they play in Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta in Co. Meath this weekend.

There were some very special guests at the weekly ‘Ciorcal Comhrá’ in Loughgeorge this morning when members of the Claregalway GAA Ladies Football Team popped in before their appearance at Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta in Co. Meath this weekend.

The Claregalway ladies will aim to defend the title which they won last year when they take on An Clochán Liath from Co. Donegal in a game which will be televised “live” by TG4 on Bank Holiday Monday (12 noon).

The Irish Language Officer for Gaeltacht an Eachréidh, Ciaran Tierney, presented the players and officials with commemorative t-shirts ahead of the trip to the Co. Meath Gaeltacht this weekend.

“This is the 54th Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta and it is wonderful to see the women of Claregalway representing Gaeltacht an Eachréidh on a national stage,” said Ciaran.

“We were delighted when team captain Eabha Ni Riordáin and her team-mates Chloe Ni Fhlatharta and Laura Ni Scanláin joined us at our weekly Conversation Circle in Loughgeorge this morning. They told us about the strength of ladies’ football in Claregalway and how their preparations are going ahead of the tournament this weekend.”

Eabha was delighted to answer questions from regulars who attend the weekly ‘Ciorcal Comhrá’ in Loughgeorge every Friday morning.

Ciaran and Micheal Monaghan from Gaeltacht an Eachréidh presented the players and team management with 38 navy t-shirts to mark their participation in the competition which has attracted teams from all seven Gaeltacht counties as well as Antrim and Dublin.

The weekend’s events in Ráth Chairn are being broadcast live on both TG4 and Raidio na Gaeltachta, with TG4 sent to broadcast Monday’s ladies final live at 12 noon.

The aim of this annual competition is to foster friendships between Irish-speaking communities across the island and there was great joy in Claregalway when Jarlath Brennan’s team won the final last year.

Eabha, Chloe, and Laura were all on the 2024 team and they told the Ciorcal Comhrá they are determined to bring the cup back to Claregalway again on Monday evening.
