Join us for a road trip and a guided tour around Conamara with the poet, storyteller, and historian Sean O Coistealbha on Saturday, June 13, at 9.30pm.

This unusual all-day trip involves bringing your own car, car pooling with friends, and spending a full day in the company of a man who has a great knowledge and understanding of the Gaeltacht areas of South Conamara.

The trip is free of charge, but we are asking people to register with us on Eventbrite so that we are sure of the numbers beforehand. Places are limited.

We will meet up at the Ceardlann in An Spidéal, Sean’s home village, at 9.30am on the morning of Saturday, June 13.

We are asking people to “car pool” with friends from Claregalway, Carnmore, and Annaghdown, and to arrange the driving with your friends beforehand.

Sean will bring us on a one hour walking tour of An Spidéal before we move West to Baile na hAbhann for a two hour exploration of archaeological sites of interest from the Mesolithic Age to the War of Independence.

Then we will take our cars further west to Ceantar nan Oileán (the Region of the Islands), one of the strongest Gaeltacht areas in South Conamara.

We will have some food in a local hostelry before making it back to An Spidéal around 6pm.

Sean delivered a wonderful talk at the weekly Ciorcal Comhrá in Loughgeorge recently and we are looking forward to his unique and humorous take on the heritage, landscape, and people of Conamara on Saturday, June 13.

This is an all-day event. We will meet at the Ceardlann in the picturesque village of An Spidéal at 9.30am and return there for around 6pm, before people make their way home.

Please arrange with your friends at your local ‘ciorcal comhrá’ or indeed in the community to arrange ‘car pooling’ on the day.

Irish is the language of this event. You don’t need to be fluent to take part, but some understanding of Irish is required. It is open to anyone with an interest in Irish and in Conamara.

A maximum of 25 people can be accommodated on this tour!
