As a special treat for local teenagers, the Galway Bay Sailing Club are opening up their doors for another sailing camp ‘as Gaeilge’ in Rinville, Oranmore, next month.

Following on from the huge success of two summer camps at the club in June, participants will learn how to sail ‘as Gaeilge’ on the week-long course which begins on Monday, August 18. The course runs from 9am to 1.30pm each day.

This is a great chance to improve your Irish while learning how to sail and participants will also be invited to take part in training courses on Saturdays during the winter months.

There are just 20 places available on this morning course and people are advised to register as soon as possible.

In June, the Galway Bay Sailing Club joined up with Irish Language Planning Officers around Galway to offer scholarships for the week-long ‘Gaeilge Chois Trá’ camps at Rinville, Oranmore.

All of the activites were run in our native language.

The success of those sold out camps in June has prompted the club to offer a week of sailing lessons ‘as Gaeilge’ in Oranmore from August 18 to 22. The cost of the week-long course is just €65.

“At a time when summer colleges in the Gaeltacht sell out almost a year in advance, it is fantastic to have these enjoyable outdoor activity camps ‘as Gaeilge’ so close to home,” says Ciarán Tierney, Language Planning Officer from Gaeltacht an Eachreidh.

“Teenagers in Carnmore, Claregalway and Annaghdown should register as soon as possible as there are only about 15 spaces left. The feedback we received in June was fantastic!”
