Leaders wanted for Irish language sports camp

Do you know of any teenagers living in Claregalway, Carnmore, or Annaghdown who would be interested in taking leadership roles at an activities camp ‘as Gaeilge’ in Oranmore in June of next year?
Teenagers in transition year or fifth year, who have a good level of Irish, are invited to apply for leadership positions on the Gaeilge Chois Trá camps in association with the Galway Bay Saling Club in June 2026.
Applications are particularly welcome from girls who are in transition year or fifth year who will be given paid positions on the courses if they complete a training weekend at Rinville, Oranmore, early in the new year.
At the start of the summer this year, Gaeltacht An Eachréidh teamed up with the Galway Bay Sailing Club to offer scholarships to a very successful sports camp ‘as Gaeilge’ in June, which completely sold out.
The feedback we received was fantastic, as participants improved their command of Irish while also taking part in a wide variety of outdoor activities, including sailing, through the medium of our native language.
But some of the leaders on the camp are doing their Leaving Certificate in 2026 and the organisers are currently looking for teenagers to take paid leadership positions on the course.
These leaders would take part in a free training course over a weekend in early 2026 (late January or February) and would be paid to act as “leaders” on the camps next June.
Activities will include learning how to sail, how to use a rib, kayaking, swimming, pier jumping, a céili and a quiz, as well as classroom-based Irish classes in the mornings.
The camp is being run by qualified Irish teachers and teenage activity experts who have experience of working at the renowned Coláiste Uisce in the Co. Mayo Gaeltacht.
Teenagers do not have to be fluent to take part, as the camps are aimed at improving your level of Irish in a friendly and informal environment.
If anyone is interested, they are asked to contact Eimear at Galway Bay Sailing Club by this Friday, December 19, at 5pm.
