Tickets are now on sale for our new term of Irish classes for adults at The Arches Hotel in Claregalway which begins on Tuesday, September 29.

The cost is €70 for an eight week course and we are delighted to offer two levels of Irish – Beginners (A1 and A2) at 7pm and Intermediates (B1) at 8.15pm on Tuesday evenings.

The classes will be provided by a native Irish speaker from Conamara, who is also a full-time primary teacher at the wonderful Gaelscoil in Annaghdown, Scoil Naomh Breandán.

Many people in Claregalway will already be familiar with Katie Ni Dhonnabháin, as she took charge of the ‘Ciorcal Comhrá’ on Thursday nights from January to June of this year.

There are still places available for both one-hour classes (7 to 8pm and 8.15 to 9.15pm) and you are strongly urged to test your level of Irish before booking a place.

If you are not sure about your level of Irish, please use this excellent level test provided by Gaelchultúr: https://www.gaelchultur.com/en/assessment

The first class (from 7 to 8pm) is aimed at A1 (Beginners) and A2 (Elementary) learners, whereas the second class (Intermediates, high A2 to B1) is for those who have some level of Irish and can describe experiences such as a day at work, school, etc.

Gaeltacht an Eachréidh is delighted to offer these classes again for the coming winter, after the classes proved to be a huge hit with adult learners last year.

We were thrilled that a young graduate from Claregalway, Máire Nic Oireachtaigh, was available for all three terms last year, but Máire is taking a break from teaching this year in order to focus on her final year examinations at the University of Galway.

Please register for the correct class at the booking stage as two of the three terms sold out in advance last year and we were unable to move people between classes. There will be a one-week break for Halloween on October 27 and the term will conclude on November 24. We intend to continue with the classes again in January and we want to thank academics in the Irish Department at the University of Galway who are finalising a syllabus for Katie.

The first class is not for complete beginners who have never done Irish before, you are expected to have some Irish even if it’s “rusty” since your school days! You will find that it will come back to you thanks to Katie’s interactive style.

Don’t miss this opportunity to expand your language skills while having fun and making new friends in Baile Chláir on Tuesday evenings.

Those who attend the classes on Tuesdays are also strongly urged to join us at a new ‘Ciorcal Comhrá’ for learners and people who have forgotten a lot of their Irish at The Arches Hotel on Thursdays (7 to 8pm). We have a wonderful new facilitator on Thursdays and he will be focusing on helping those who have forgotten their “school Irish” in the first hour on Thursdays.
