Wexford, has been living on the quietest of the three Aran Islands for five years now and shared her love of the place with us during the course of a guided walk.<\/p>\n<p>Aedin is the founder of Bl\u00e1thanna Fi\u00e1ine Wildflower Walks, guided island tours in which she shares island folklore, fairy tales, and knowledge of native Irish plants. Gaeltacht an Eachr\u00e9idh was delighted that she could fit us in for a guided tour &#8216;as Gaeilge&#8217; a week after the very successful F\u00e9ile na bPotacha\u00ed, the festival she set up to celebrate the humble blackberry.<\/p>\n<p>The islanders have their own word\u00a0<em class=\"zhvwWe\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"ep\" data-complete=\"true\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif, &quot;Noto Color Emoji&quot;; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);\">&#8220;puiteacha\u00ed&#8221;<!--TgQPHd|||[]--><\/em> (0r puiteacha) for what most Irish speakers call &#8220;sm\u00e9ara dubha&#8221;. It was just one of the delightful anecdotes Aedin had for us about the unique words to be found on the quietest of the three islands.<\/p>\n<p>After taking a taxi from the pier, we began our adventure at Cathaoir Sygne, a seat sheltered by rocks with breath-taking views of Inis M\u00f3r and the mainland across Galway Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Aedin told us about J.M. Synge\u2019s connection to the island and how he was inspired to go there to find artistic inspiration, to learn and improve his spoken Irish, and immerse himself in a traditional way of life.
